Bedding Plants

The four golden rules for successful growing in containers.

Make sure there are holes in the base of your containers, and that the containers holes are not blocked, by placing the container over a flat solid surface - you could always use 'feet' to raise your container.

Put a minimum of 25mm of gravel in the base of your container to ensure there is adequate drainage.

Choice of compost – for seasonal bedding use our coarse open peat based compost, but for permanent planting use a loam (soil) based compost. An ideal loam based compost is John Innes No.3. If you are planting ericaceous plants (lime haters) such as Rhododendrons and Camellias, use John Innes Ericaceous.

Don't let your containers dry out during the summer months, the larger the container the more compost it will hold and this will help to conserve moisture. During the winter months keep your containers dry.
